Welcome to Hawk & Oak Publishing!
I created this as a response to something I felt was severely missing in the publishing industry — place where stories and the people behind them are given the attention and care they deserve, and to build a different kind of publishing experience: one grounded in partnership, transparency, and respect for the work itself.
This is not a high-volume operation. It is a deliberate one.
At its core, Hawk & Oak is built on a simple idea:
When our authors succeed, we succeed.
That principle shapes every decision we make. Whether from the number of projects we take on, to how those projects are prepared, presented, and brought to market.
We do not believe in rushing books through a system.
We do not believe in overwhelming authors with fragmented services or unclear expectations.
Instead, we focus on building a clear, steady path from manuscript to release.
Hawk & Oak provides support across the full preparation process, including:
• Thoughtful editorial guidance and manuscript development
• Intentional cover design and professional formatting
• Distribution across major platforms including Amazon, Apple Books, and Spotify
• Direct-to-reader delivery through our in-house system, Hawk & Oak Direct
Our role is not to take ownership of your work, but to help you bring it to life professionally, thoughtfully, and in a way that gives it the best chance to reach readers.
We intentionally work with a limited number of authors each year.
This is not a constraint — it is a standard.
Every project we accept receives direct, focused attention. Rather than scaling for volume, Hawk & Oak grows deliberately, ensuring that quality remains consistent across every book we help bring into the world.
Because of this, we accept only a small number of new projects annually.
We understand that authors want clarity about who they are working with, and we believe they should.
That’s why we are open about our philosophy and the way we approach each partnership.
When a submission aligns with Hawk & Oak, we move into a more detailed conversation. At that stage, we provide a clear view of how we work—covering timelines, production flow, distribution paths, and financial structure. This includes how royalties are tracked and returned through Hawk & Oak Direct.
This ensures clarity without overwhelming the process or presenting details out of context.
We believe authors should understand exactly what they are stepping into before making a decision.
Projects accepted into Hawk & Oak are supported by a small network of vetted editors and artists.
These are individuals selected for their ability to meet professional standards while remaining mindful of cost and scope. Our goal is to ensure that every book is produced with care and quality, and without unnecessary expense or inflated pricing structures.
We do not seek ownership of an author’s work.
Hawk & Oak is built on the belief that the creator should retain the rights to what they have made, and benefit directly from its success.
For works distributed through Hawk & Oak Direct, royalties are structured to favor the author, with a clear and consistent share returned from each sale. Full details are provided during the partnership stage so that expectations are understood from the beginning.
If you choose to work with Hawk & Oak, you can expect:
• Direct involvement from the founder
• A clear and structured path to publication
• Thoughtful guidance without unnecessary complexity
• Professional standards maintained across every stage
• A partnership built on mutual respect and shared outcomes
We don’t ask for your work until we can show you ours. Whether it's through the books we release or the systems we’ve built to support them.
Hawk & Oak is still growing, and that growth is intentional. Each project we take on helps shape what this publishing house becomes, not just in scale, but in identity.
Partnership with Hawk & Oak is never assumed; it is chosen, deliberately, on both sides.
A true partnership.
If that approach resonates with you, we welcome you to reach out!
Sincerely,
Robert Magarity
